Jo Gates

I have been intrigued by the body and have loved movement all my life.  Initially training and working as a physiotherapist here and overseas, I didn’t find and fall in love with yoga until 2000. Although the physical practice initially drew me in, it was the stillness, the space, the presence that yoga brings that captured my heart, mind and spirit. My journey with yoga has continued since that time, leading me to my initial 200 hour yoga teacher training in 2006 and many more trainings (including 500 hour advanced training) since then.  I began teaching immediately after my initial training and continue today sharing my passion for yoga in studios, gyms, workshops, and on retreats both nationally and internationally.  I have been blessed to study with many wonderful teachers from around the world including Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste, Louisa Sear, Maty Ezraty, with my most recent inspiration and teachings coming from Ana Forrest.  I am truly grateful to Ana for her wisdom and guidance and am excited to be offering Forrest yoga at the World Yoga Day event in Bondi.  My classes are dynamic and creative, encouraging students to let go of their mindsets and expectations and open up to the flow of their breath, the feelings of their body and the movement of energy, which are the gateways to the present moment.   ‘When I let go of what I am, I discover what I might be’  Lao Tzu.
